The Singapore Food Authority (SFA) came up with three strategies to ensure food security in Singapore. It aims to make food more accessible to vulnerable groups in the Singapore community while enhancing the economy. These strategies are also known as food baskets. The three strategies are as follows:

#1 More Diverse Food Import Sources

The SFA has mandated that importers of crucial food goods implement business continuity plans. It may involve import source diversification. Importing food from various nations lessens the risk of becoming overly reliant on a single supply source. It enables importers to increase supplies from alternative sources of supply for food security in Singapore.

#2 Going Local

Singapore is trying to improve our agri-food industry's capability and capacity to generate 30 percent of our nutritional needs locally and sustainably by 2030. This goal is part of the Singapore Green Plan 2030 they unveiled in February 2021. It is one of the tangible initiatives we are taking to strengthen their resilience to climate change.

#3 Going Global

Singapore is assisting local food production enterprises in establishing themselves overseas and exporting their products back to Singapore. It is how the government contributes to national food security in Singapore. This approach assists Singapore in developing strategic relationships with crucial partners and assisting local enterprises in exporting their urban food solutions.

Many have also resorted to doing urban farming to diminish the necessity of spending and to make food more accessible. The pandemic provided the government with more opportunities to follow through. Singapore has prepared for substantial food disruptions caused by global pandemics, climate change, geopolitical shifts, or other factors.
